UPDATE ON OUR MOVE-IN DATE:

We are very thankful that hurricane Ida did not cause any damage to our new building, although the week without power did delay construction. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who suffered losses to homes and health.
Our updated move-in date is set for October 25th and we plan to have all residents and clients living in the facility by that date, pending the appropriate state fire marshal and department of health inspections. This, much-anticipated move, would not be possible without the support of our loyal donors and our community.
While the building is just about move-in ready, we have not yet met our fundraising goal to cover the costs of the needed renovations. These costs amount to approximately $2 million and include a new commercial kitchen & dining room, sleeping dorms for men and women, a shower area for women, new beds for the dorms, an outdoor, covered seating area, and medical and dental clinic areas. To date, we have raised $1 million of our goal. We are beyond grateful to all who have helped us get this far!
If you would like to contribute to our relocation campaign, please click here or call 504-523-1184 to discuss support options.

Since 1955, Ozanam Inn has operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from 843 Camp Street. While we are massively grateful for its use, the needs of the community we serve as well as the city of New Orleans have changed a lot in the past 66 years. Additionally, the building itself is over 100 years old, and maintenance on the heating, electric systems, and plumbing infrastructure had become a budgetary burden. That is why when we found a modern building becoming available on the market, we seized the opportunity.

Our new facility at 2239 Poydras will be a massive boon to the programs and services that we provide. Foremost, our bed capacity will increase from 96 to 150, including a dormitory for women for the first time. On-site health clinics, operated by the Tulane School of Medicine, LSU School of Medicine, and LSU School of Dentistry, will have designated exam rooms to treat patients. A classroom will allow us to expand our job training, offer computer classes, and provide a private space for our addiction counseling sessions. Finally, the new location opens opportunities to reach more of our community in need and is near many of the other services our clients rely on to make their transition to stable, healthy, independent living.

With the generosity of our community, we are confident we will reach our goal in support of this new chapter at Ozanam Inn.

The challenge aims to engage residents and tourists through 300 unique volunteer projects to accumulate 300,000 hours of service over the course of 2018. Projects will focus on addressing issues of equity, resilience and public safety throughout the city.

We thank all of the partners who worked so hard to create this initiative and for allowing us to be a part of the event. A big thanks to all of the volunteers who are participating, as well.

Management Shift at the Inn! https://www.ozanaminn.org/news-article/management-shift-at-the-inn Fri, 09 Dec 2016 00:00:00 +0000 https://www.ozanaminn.org/news-article/management-shift-at-the-inn

From the President of our Board of Directors, Mr. Claiborne Perrilliat

"I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of the recent management changes that have occurred. After twenty three years of dedicated service to the Inn and the less fortunate members of our community, Deacon Biaggio S. DiGiovanni, known to us all as Deacon “G”, has decided to step down as Executive Director. Our current Administrator, Clarence Adams, has been promoted to be our new Executive Director. Clarence has been “second in command” at the Inn for seventeen plus years and is a natural choice for his new responsibilities. Deacon G will remain at the Inn, part time, in a new role as Administrator/Finance Manager, replacing our retiring Finance Manager, Roy Allain.
All of these decisions and changes were carefully weighed and approved by the Board of Directors and became effective on October 1, 2016.

Please join us in thanking Deacon G for all of his contributions to the Inn and for his tireless service to those in need.
We also thank Mr. Roy for his time and service to the Inn (see more below). We are blessed to have Deacon G remain with us in a part time role.
This will support a very smooth transition of his duties into the very capable hands of Clarence.

We are also blessed to have Clarence accept the position of Executive Director. We are certain that his years of experience at the Inn and the time he spent working with Deacon G will ensure his success. Congratulations to all of these fine gentlemen."

JOB PLACEMENTS! https://www.ozanaminn.org/news-article/job-placements Thu, 02 Jul 2015 00:00:00 +0000 https://www.ozanaminn.org/news-article/job-placements

JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!

We are so pleased to announce that two (2) of our in-house clients have recently been employed by Boh Bros. Construction Co.!

At Ozanam Inn, our twelve (12) week Job Skills Training group sessions are just one of the ways we help our clients move from homelessness to independent living and gainful employment. During the sessions, our community partners, such as Boh Bros., send representatives to discuss job opportunities within their organizations. We are very grateful for these partners and their willingness to work with those who are struggling to get their lives back on track. We would never be able to offer so much to our clients without them and the successes would not be so great if they

were not on board! Our gratitude is beyond words.

Here is the message we received, just yesterday, from the Boh Bros. representative about these placements:

Malcolm and Kevin!

Malcolm was hired in Baton Rouge.

He had a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)

and is currently working and has been since June 4th.

Kevin was hired yesterday and has been placed on a job site today.

Thank you so much for referring these applicants to Boh Bros.

I’m hoping that it works out for each of them to be long term =)!

Please join us in congratulating Malcolm and Kevin

and offering thanks to Boh Bros. Construction Co.

and all of our community partners.

Special thanks to our Director of Programs,

Mrs. Gail Ratleff, MS, for creating and implementing these

life changing programs for our clients!
