Dimitri Z – Ozanam Inn https://www.ozanaminn.org Wed, 18 Sep 2024 15:53:52 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.7.1 Our Move https://www.ozanaminn.org/news-article/our-move Wed, 13 Oct 2021 23:59:59 +0000 https://www.ozanaminn.org/news-article/our-move

UPDATE ON OUR MOVE-IN DATE:

We are very thankful that hurricane Ida did not cause any damage to our new building, although the week without power did delay construction. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who suffered losses to homes and health.
Our updated move-in date is set for October 25th and we plan to have all residents and clients living in the facility by that date, pending the appropriate state fire marshal and department of health inspections. This, much-anticipated move, would not be possible without the support of our loyal donors and our community.
While the building is just about move-in ready, we have not yet met our fundraising goal to cover the costs of the needed renovations. These costs amount to approximately $2 million and include a new commercial kitchen & dining room, sleeping dorms for men and women, a shower area for women, new beds for the dorms, an outdoor, covered seating area, and medical and dental clinic areas. To date, we have raised $1 million of our goal. We are beyond grateful to all who have helped us get this far!
If you would like to contribute to our relocation campaign, please click here or call 504-523-1184 to discuss support options.

Since 1955, Ozanam Inn has operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from 843 Camp Street. While we are massively grateful for its use, the needs of the community we serve as well as the city of New Orleans have changed a lot in the past 66 years. Additionally, the building itself is over 100 years old, and maintenance on the heating, electric systems, and plumbing infrastructure had become a budgetary burden. That is why when we found a modern building becoming available on the market, we seized the opportunity.

Our new facility at 2239 Poydras will be a massive boon to the programs and services that we provide. Foremost, our bed capacity will increase from 96 to 150, including a dormitory for women for the first time. On-site health clinics, operated by the Tulane School of Medicine, LSU School of Medicine, and LSU School of Dentistry, will have designated exam rooms to treat patients. A classroom will allow us to expand our job training, offer computer classes, and provide a private space for our addiction counseling sessions. Finally, the new location opens opportunities to reach more of our community in need and is near many of the other services our clients rely on to make their transition to stable, healthy, independent living.

With the generosity of our community, we are confident we will reach our goal in support of this new chapter at Ozanam Inn.

36th Annual Century Club Gala https://www.ozanaminn.org/century-club/36th-annual-century-club-gala Fri, 09 Dec 2016 00:00:00 +0000 https://www.ozanaminn.org/news-article/36th-annual-century-club-gala

ANOTHER YEAR, ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL CELEBRATION!

On Thursday, October 13th, Ozanam Inn celebrated our 36th Annual Century Club Gala, Rollin’ on the River! We could not have asked for a more glorious evening, venue and group of friends to revisit a year of amazing accomplishments and gifts.

No words can describe how thankful we are to the hundreds of supporters of the Inn who help ensure our programs and services continue to offer comfort to so many poor, needy and less fortunate individuals and families.

Our immense gratitude to AJ and Anna Tusa for, once again, allowing us the use of their fantastic restaurant, “Poppy’s Crazy Lobster” as the celebration’s setting! They went above and beyond, as always, donating food and an AWESOME service staff! We also thank the Port of New Orleans for allowing us to use the wharf, it was perfect!

As mentioned in the “President’s Column”, by Mr. Claiborne Perrilliat, we were very fortunate to have Most Reverend Gregory Aymond, Archbishop of New Orleans, as this year’s honoree. The Archbishop was presented with a crystal trophy as thanks for his support of Ozanam Inn and its programs. Archbishop Aymond spends most holidays at the Inn, engaging with our brothers and sisters who make Ozanam Inn their home for so many of these special days. We are very thankful that he chooses to spread his love among our patrons and residents.

Deacon Biaggio "G" DiGiovanni was presented with a proclamation from the Board of Directors for his years of service as Ozanam Inn’s Executive Director. Again, as you read in the “President’s Column”, Deacon “G” is now semi-retired and, as of Oct. 1, has transitioned into the position of Administrator/Finance Manager with Ozanam Inn's former administrator, Clarence Adams Sr., taking over the position of Executive Director.

Partygoers took photos of the beautiful backdrop of the river and steamboats passing by, sampled delicious cuisine (char-grilled oysters were a favorite), enjoyed music from Chuck Credo and his Mixed Nuts and bid on 70 silent auction items. We thank Chuck and his rocking band for keeping the crowd jumping and generously donating their time and all of the businesses and individuals who donated for the auction.

As expected, the restaurant raffle was popular: It included $100 gift certificates from 10 New Orleans restaurants: Besh Restaurant Group, Brigtsen's, Cafe Degas, Criollo (Hotel Monteleone), Dickie Brennan & Co., Galatoire's, Pascal's Manale, Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group, Vincent's Italian Cuisine and Zea Rotisserie and Grill. Thanks to all of the fine restaurants for your support. The lucky winner was Susan Tabary. Congrats and ENJOY!

The beautiful Alexandra Cranford, Meteorologist with WWLTV, once again, served as the evening’s Emcee. We also extend our gratitude to our photographer, Mr. Austin Hummel for lending us his talents for the event. Very special thanks goes out to our 2016 Gala Committee, our Board of Directors and Advisory Board, our Gold and Silver Club members, all of our amazing volunteers for the evening, our patrons and donors for the evening, the Ozanam Inn staff and the amazing men, women and children we serve. Through their courage and God’s love, lives are transformed each day. We are so proud of them for taking steps to turn around their lives which could not be done without you!
